Meet The Forest Recruitment Team

Dan Forest Recruitment

Dan Ashdown

Director

Dan has been working within sales for the past 9 years and has specialised in the recruitment sector, having worked at Guardian and JobServe before moving to London and starting at OnlyMarketingJobs.com. Here he excelled in the agency arena, running his own team and becoming a cornerstone of the business. Sadly, a move back home to Suffolk meant finding a new adventure which came in the shape of Forest Recruitment.

What is your top job seeking tip?

Commit to your job search. It seems really straight forward but a candidate who is unsure if they actually want a new role will seem stand-offish to recruiters and worst flaky when it comes to interviews. Changing roles is a big decision so make sure it’s what you really want.

What’s your favourite thing about working in recruitment?

I know it may sound quite obvious but it is placing someone in a role that they are genuinely excited about. I have had messages from candidates letting us know how much they are enjoying their new job which is really nice to receive on a cold, dark winters day.

What’s the one thing you couldn’t cope at work without?

There are actually 2 things I couldn’t be without… I need coffee in the morning to function but also a phone charger as the iPhone is a nightmare and my battery runs out everyday at around 10.30am!

If you weren’t working at Forest Recruitment what would you be doing?

I can imagine in another sales role as it is pretty much all I have done since I was 17. I have always been fairly interested in joining the fire service which is worth a mention.

And, who would play you in a movie?

I would love to say Ryan Reynolds as, come on, we are pretty much the same person…. Although unfortunately more likely to be someone like Jonah Hill circa 21 Jump Street – saying that he is a very good actor.

Jane Forest Recruitment

Jane Ashdown

Director

Jane has been working as a marketer within the recruitment sector since graduating from Kings College London. She began her career at OnlyMarketingJobs.com, a niche job board. There she was given the opportunity to get involved in all areas of marketing, and found a love for the creative side of marketing especially html coding and photoshop. After moving from London out to Suffolk it was the perfect time to set up together and only one name seemed appropriate given their surnames… Forest Recruitment.

What is your top job seeking tip?

Tailor your CV for each job. I appreciate it’s time consuming but making small tweaks to highlight your suitability for the role go a long way to making your CV stand out to in-house recruiters. Use phrases from the job spec in your CV, especially your previous responsibilities to show how you already have experience in these areas. Obviously don’t lie.

What’s your favourite thing about working in recruitment?

The best, and the worst, thing about working in recruitment for me is the excitement of it. When you have a candidate in an interview you get this buzz of anticipation and literally will keep your fingers crossed for them. It can be really heartbreaking if it doesn’t work out but when it does, and you’ve found a good fit it’s really rewarding.

What’s the one thing you couldn’t cope at work without?

Well without a computer or the internet my day would be pretty pointless but other than that it’s probably music. I love to have some background noise, although I do have some questionable taste when it comes to Spotify *she says listening to Meatloaf*.

If you weren’t working at Forest Recruitment what would you be doing?

I hope I’d be running a little bakery, although I hate early mornings so I doubt it would be a very successful bakery.

And, who would play you in a movie?

Rachel McAdams would be amazing, but a clumsier and more awkward version of her.
